Organic Gardening Tips and Tricks

There is nothing as good as getting some vital tips before you start with your own garden. Lots of information and tips on gardening are easily accessible on books and magazines on gardening, the internet and your local nursery. Do you know much about fertilizers? Also the tools necessary will have to be decided including what kind of tiller you need plus the type of watering system.

Store your garden tools in a garden shed so they’re organized and don’t rust. You can learn how to build a shed and get shed plans too.

Tip #1: If you write down what you plan to do with your garden you can save a lot of time. Keep the plan in front and call a friend to discuss the whole matter. You have to ensure its appearance and calculate the distance of the hose from it.

Gardening Tip #2: The preparation of the soil is a major piece of the garden puzzle and has huge effects on the success of your garden. Different types of plants prefer different types of soil so make sure you take that into consideration. If your garden is planned to be vegetarian or herbal, make sure to use only organic fertilizers if you want the natural flavor of the food to remain. Use any good compost or wooden chip mulch instead of ordinary fertilizer.

Are you of the opinion that a backyard compost heap is impossible? Though fresh home brew compost is a rich source of nutrients, it may not be as realistic as one imagines, for the herbal and vegetable garden. Softer woods like redwood or pine make good mulch as it breaks faster and it is a good substitute to home compost mixture. Whether you use mulch, compost or fertilizer, you must mix them well.

This can make you last minute changes. At least that is what I feel. For example, any plant with a large girth should be clubbed with other plants with similar characteristics. Then have the taller plants in the back and the shorter ones in the front to maximize space; this makes it easy to see everything.

Gardening Tip 4: Watering your garden is very important. Keeping up with it can be a big job depending on how big your house is. Use an automatic watering system, if you want your garden to grow on its own. These auto systems can be anything from big sprinkler systems to a timer on a hose sprinkler. Gardening is not just hard work – it gives you much in return.
