Moving Company: Affordable Methods to Relocate From Your Home Without Breaking the Budget

When it comes to locating affordable ways, to relocate from home, making a detailed list of valuables, packing properly, contacting the moving company and shopping around for truck rentals that offer good value, are the important steps to take. By spending only a little bit of money to insure an easy, successful relocation, people, should expect to do most of the legwork. Creating a spreadsheet on the computer and making an exhaustive list of all items, such as clothing, furniture, equipment, appliances and the children’s bicycles or big wheels, is the first step. As this list is being compiled, any old furniture, clothing or tools, that are no longer in use, in the cellar or the garage, should be donated to a local charity. Broken electronics and damaged computer monitors, as well as other metal items, can be sold to local scrap dealers, who usually, will not charge anything for pickup and will pay by total poundage of all material.

It’s advisable, to sell anything that’s considered scrap and not needed, since it will not only will it help with relocation costs, but it’s really, your money, hiding in plain sight. Going down to the local hardware or office supply store and buying some durable, heavy duty packing tape, some white or bright colored labels, to easily identify contents, padding material and also a good amount of wardrobe boxes, should be the next step. This type of box is generally heavier, in large dimensions and can be purchased cheaply, in bulk. Additionally, using original boxes of computer equipment, that you’ve bought over time, for packing purposes, may save a few dollars as well. These boxes are sturdy, have a firm bottom layer and can easily hold any kind of metal based equipment, that needs to be packed.

properly padding the interior of boxes, placing all the larger objects on the bottom and the lighter things, such as clothes on top, is the right way to pack. A box should not weigh excessively, because, it can literally come apart, when the mover picks it up. Belts, shoes, caps, purses, boots, leather gloves, should be placed into plastic bags, tied up and strategically included with boxes, that carry clothing. By obtaining all the necessary packing supplies and fully using them, before the movers show up, will save a lot of money and time. When getting in touch with the company, that will relocate your possessions, asking for an estimate, should be the next step.

This company must be bonded, allowed to operate in your state and will give references when asked. The amount of money they’ll require, will depend on total weight to be moved and distance to be traveled. Therefore, the earlier suggestion, of selling for scrap or throwing out things that you don’t need, will save you a large amount of money. Additionally, these types of businesses, often will offer very sound advice, on the best techniques for relocation, because after all, it’s what they do for a living. Deciding to rent a truck, to transport some high value items, such as your computer, oxygen tanks, that are needed by a member of the family who is ill, or other essentials, like everyday clothing, jewelry boxes, private file cabinets, or even some of the most fragile items in the home, for instance, living room lamps, mirrors, ceiling fans or expensive glassware, is highly recommended.

More efficient heating and cooling via heat pumps and geothermal heating

Something for nothing is something we all want. Everybody wants a free lunch, even though philosophers tell us there’s no such thing. However, occasionally we can get a cheap lunch, or at least the illusion of a cheap lunch. In the area of heating and air conditioning, time and invention are bringing us closer to this cheap lunch. Northern Kentucky geothermal and Greater Cincinnati heating and air conditioning are working hard to bring this reality to the mid-West.

What is a free lunch in the area of the heating and air conditioning system? It consists of transferring heat that already exists and moving it where it’s needed. This concept of using existing heat began when the heat pump was invented. It seems counter-intuitive that on a cold day, the house can be warmed by the cold outside. It makes more sense when you remember that there is no such thing as cold in physics. What we sense as cold is, in truth, just a lower level of heat. Knowing this, we can have an image of how a heat pump can keep the house warm by bringing outdoor heat indoors. Looking at the reverse, it is just as counter-intuitive that the summer heat in the kitchen can be pushed outdoors into an even hotter summer afternoon. But, as we all know, it works.

The next step forward is geothermal heating and cooling. While the heat pump transfers the heat of the air, the geothermal system uses the heat of the earth. When this type of system is installed for a house, loops of metal tubing are buried in the ground, going in either a horizontal or vertical direction, depending on the layout of the house and the lot. Another possible configuration anchors the loops of coil into the bottom of a pond. Heat from the ground can be transferred into the house. The way this works is that fluid runs through these loops of tubing, extracting the heat of the ground. When transferred to the geothermal unit, the unit compresses this heat to give a high temperature that is circulated throughout the house. When summer comes, this process is reversed to cool the house.

Geothermal heating and cooling is most commonly used in the most obvious places, where the ground is the hottest. Where are these locations? Around the boundaries of the earth’s tectonic plates. The tectonic plates are the huge chunks of rock that make up the continents of the earth and that float on the underlying asthenosphere. Around the edges of the plates are the thermally active areas of the world where earthquakes and volcanoes are experienced. This great heat can be used for geothermal heating and cooling. Now that this system has evolved, it is applicable in more stable areas of the earth, including our mid-West.

It’s still true that there’s no such thing as a free lunch, but the lunch is getting cheaper as heat pumps and geothermal heating and cooling are developed and become more widespread. As they develop further and become more widely used, we can hope that they will become a more economical choice for our homes.

Keeping your heating and air conditioning system in good condition

As winter approaches, it’s time for your second servicing for your heating and cooling system. Your local Northern Kentucky heating and air conditioning company can do the job for you. You probably believe two check-ups is one too many, especially since your budget it tight this year. However, your Northern Kentucky furnace repair provider isn’t just trying to take advantage of you. There is a good purpose for two yearly visits. Remember that your heat pump does two jobs: heating and cooling. In the winter, the heat pump pumps the heat into your house, and in the summer it pumps the heat out of the house.

The explanation for the reason for two visits is temperature. When the weather is hot, you can’t test the heating action of the heat pump, and when it is cold, you can’t test the cooling action. Therefore, your heating and cooling maintenance company will call you twice a year to make an appointment. You have put a lot of money into your system, so it is in the best interest of your budget to keep the system well-maintained. As Poor Richard said 200 years ago, “A stitch in time saves nine.” That was good advice 200 years ago, and it is still good advice today. If you make small payments twice a year to have your heating and cooling system cleaned and tuned, you will be making small investments to ensure that your system lasts for as many years as it can-rather like a car with 300,000 miles on it.

In between maintenance visits, you can do your part to keep the system running smoothly and cleanly. The most important thing to be done is to replace the filter every month. If you buy filters by the carton from a discount store, the cost will be minimal. It is also possible to find permanent filters that can be hosed off to remove the dust. On the subject of dust, a secondary reason for changing the filter is to reduce the amount of dust in the air of your house. It is important to eliminate as much dust as possible from your air for two reasons. First of all, the dust blown about by your furnace fan lands on your furniture. Dusting the furniture is one of those little household tasks that most people try to avoid, so if the dust is being trapped by the furnace filter, it’s not being deposited on the armoire or the chiffarobe. Second, household dust aggravates many people’s indoor allergies. We’re all aware of the kinds of things that dust is made of, but we won’t go into that here, because it is a rather distasteful topic. These motes flying through the air are not made of dirt from outdoors. It consists of creepy things that many people are allergic to. So keeping the room dust-free with a good filter will, in the end, save you money that would have to be spent on allergy-relief medicine.

These are just a portion of the reasons that you should work to maintain your heating and cooling system. Some of the work is for you, and other work is for the professionals.

Pool Equipment can Help Save Lives

Kids love swimming and owning a swimming pool is one of the best things to give them. It can be a tragedy if you are not prepared How could that happen? Swimming pools kill hundreds of kids yearly. Swimming Pool Accessories

The US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) said drowning is the leading cause of accidental death in the home of children under five years old. Each year nearly 300 kids under five drown in pools.

“In addition, more than 2,000 children in that age group are treated in hospital emergency rooms for submersion injures. Medical costs for submersion victims during the initial hospitalization alone can be quite high. Costs can range from an estimated $2,000 for a victim who recovers fully to $80,000 for a victim with severe brain damage. Some severely brain damaged victims have initial hospital stays in excess of 120 days and expenses in excess of $150,000,” the CPSC revealed.

75 percent of submersion victims are between one and three years old, 65 percent are boys. Even tough, in most cases, the parents were actually watching their children.

“Submersion incidents involving children usually happen in familiar surroundings. Sixty-five percent of the incidents happened in a pool owned by the child’s family and 33 percent of the incidents happened in a pool owned by friends or relatives,” according to the CPSC.

“Pool submersions involving children happen quickly. A child can drown in the time it takes to answer a phone. Seventy-seven percent of the victims had been missing from sight for five minutes or less. Survival depends on rescuing the child quickly and restarting the breathing process, even while the child is still in the water. Seconds count in preventing death or brain damage,” they added.

If you put a fence around your pool the risk of drowning are greatly reduced. The fence provides a safety net when you can’t watch your kids outside. Moreover, it gives parents additional time to locate a child before something happens.

“Install a four-sided, isolation pool fence that completely separates the house and play area of the yard from the pool area. The fence should be at least four feet high. Use self-closing and self-latching gates that open outward with latches that are out of reach of children.” said the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Improving Your Yard With Planting Tips

Planting trees is simply a necessary rite of spring for many garden enthusiasts. Garden centers around the country are filled to the brim with people looking to green up their yards with trees, shrubbery, annuals and perennials.

So, once you get that tree home it’s planting time. But is it really as easy as digging a hole in the ground and plopping your new purchase in? Yes, it can be that easy. fter all, trees are an investment in your local ecosystem and ultimately the world.

tree planting
When trees are stored in a nursery for long periods of time, it becomes necessary to re-burlap them, as the burlap could rot before the tree is sold. If it has been re-wrapped, then there is a possibility that nylon strings are between the layers of burlap; so check the tree and stem carefully before tree planting. Backfilling using clay soil is almost like building a dam to keep the excess water from over-saturating the root ball of your newly planted tree.

A very critical part of planting a tree is the soil in which you plant it. If your soil is heavy clay, then it is ideal to add rich topsoil to the mix when planting. If for some reason you can’t do that, then bury the plant so that at least 2 inches or more of the root ball is above the existing grade.

Do keep in mind that trees planted this way can dry out. But, planting them flush to the ground in heavy clay can mean that the roots will get too much water.

planting guides
Keep in mind that most trees are grown in well drained soil. That means that the soil around the root ball is porous so that water can easily pass through. It is recommended that you plant the root ball at least 2 inches above grade and backfill around the ball with the soil you shoveled out when you dug the hole.

Backfilling using clay soil is almost like building a dam to keep the excess water from over-saturating the root ball of your newly planted tree.

By planting in a good, nutrient-rich topsoil, you are doing all you can to keep your deciduous or coniferous plant healthy and happy. Whether you have good soil or bad, be careful not to plant your trees too deeply.

seed starting
They should not be planted any deeper than they were planted in the nursery. Thousands of trees are killed each year by gardening enthusiasts who just don’t understand how critical planting depth is. Consult a garden guides if you need further instructions.

How to Make Cheap Drip Irrigation Systems?

You can prepare efficient drip irrigation system by yourself making use of some easily available resources. You can do it by using a pop bottle also! In this article, you would learn how to make an irrigation system so easily.

Some vegetations and plants need slow and steady irrigation supply. It is drip irrigation which offers uniformed water supply where you don’t have to pay regular attention. This delivers the drops of water directly at the root-centre of the plants. With this irrigation idea, water is absorbed appropriately that helps produce conducive moisture level in the soil.

Preparing a drip irrigation system is an easy task. You could get hold of some watering spikes from your local gardener centre to prepare your own system. Suppose you don’t want to spend your money behind purchasing such commercial irrigation products and equipments, you can also use some recycled materials. You can also use plastic bottles for preparing this type of irrigation systems.

Here some of the things you can take into consideration to make an easy and handy watering system:

1. Get hold of a plastic bottle which has a lid or a cap

2. Make some 7-8 holes into the cap of your bottle

3. Cut the bottom of your bottle vertically across and remove it to create a funnel

4. Dig a hole in between the plants

5. Burry down 1/3 to one half the bottle with cap side down

6. Pour water into the bottle until it’s full

Bearing in in mind the atmosphere and the condition of the soil, you can consider the supply of water to your vegetation. Lawn Seed Starting Tips

When trying to decide which type of grass seed to sow on your lawn, there are some points to consider. Some varieties of grass plant seeds need little or no mowing, while others require frequent mowing. Some also require more moisture than your climate provides, so watering may be necessary.

You will need to till the area, if you are starting from seeding scratch, in order to remove old clumps of roots and then rake it until you get the level you desire. Let’s look at the pros and cons of seeding your lawn, to help make the process easier.

seeding
What seeds should you buy? You must take your local climate into consideration when making this decision. Take a look at your yard and figure out whether the area is wet or dry, if it is shady or gets full sun exposure. You also need to determine what type of soil you have. This will help you make the right choice for your lawn.

You will need to add some sand to the mixture before planting the grass seed if your soil doesn’t drain well. This will keep the ground from becoming waterlogged and drowning your seeds. Be sure to check the pH level of your soil. Most lawns ideally thrive with a pH level of 6.5 to 7.0. If your soil is not in this range, you may need to adjust it to attain this level.

The real work now lies ahead. The first step you should take after preparing the site is to add a layer of organic material to your topsoil. Some people don’t use topsoil, and instead, use peat moss. Compost and manure, at a minimum of one inch thick should do the trick. Make sure you leave the mixture loose so that the roots can spread out. Consult planting guides or ask questions at a local gardening center if you have any questions.

garden guides
Fertilizer should be spread on your yard approximately one week before you plan on seeding your lawn. As a general rule, when you are preparing your soil to plant seeds, that is the best time to fertilize. Before planting time, read the information the seed company provides on the package as to how much seed to sow and when.

To begin sowing your lawn, you can do it by hand or you can use a spreader, it is completely up to you. It may be easier to divide your lawn into sections and sow each section one at a time.

To make sure you have an even spread of seeds, sow in two directions. You will need to rake the seed into the soil after you have spread it out. Spray a fine mist of water to help them start to germinate. To prevent birds from eating your newly sown lawn, you can crisscross string about four inches above the soil surface.

plant seeds
The final step in the process is watching and waiting. After seven to fourteen days, seedlings should start to appear. Water your grass with a fine mist, as you don’t want the seeds to dry out, nor do you want them to become saturated.

Seeding your own lawn does require effort and attention on your part, and to keep yourself motivated during the process, try to picture the lush green lawn you will have in just a short time!
